What Kemah does to a window

Kemah is a small town with a lot of waterfront. Galveston Bay is on the east side, Clear Creek and the channel run along the north under the bridge, and the canal subdivisions off FM 2094 put brackish water in nearly every backyard. The old streets around the Boardwalk and 6th Street get a steady salt spray off the bay, and the canal homes get a lighter but constant version from the water a few feet below the back windows. Add the boat traffic in and out of the marinas at Waterford Harbor and Marina del Sol, and the glass facing the water goes dull within a couple of weeks.

Kemah also has the same hard water as the rest of the Bay Area, and the sprinkler overspray leaves a line of mineral spots on the lower panes of homes along Clear Lake Road and in Lazy Bend. Under the live oaks in the older part of town the glass stays shaded and damp, which means pollen in March and mildew in the shoulder seasons. The weather here comes straight off the bay, so summer storms blow grit into the tracks and screens, and during hurricane season the first thing most owners notice after a blow is how much got through the screens onto the glass.

A quarterly plan suits most Kemah homes back from the water, with the inside glass done once a year. Bayfront and canal homes usually go to every month or two, because the salt comes back that fast. Owners in the older streets near the Boardwalk often add a spring visit for the pollen, and rental owners have us time the first clean of the year for the start of boating season. We work the canal streets together in one pass, know the rules in Marina del Sol and Waterford Harbor, and send a text the morning of each visit so nobody has to wait at home.

Bayfront and canal homes pick up salt within weeks and do best every month or two. Homes along Clear Lake Road and in Lazy Bend a few streets back are fine on a quarterly plan. Most people have the inside glass done once a year.

Can you clean the water-side windows on a canal home?

Yes. We clean the back glass from the deck, the bulkhead or a water-fed pole from the yard, depending on the layout. If your dock or boat lift is in the way, tell us when you book and we will plan around it.

Do you clean windows at vacation rentals near the Boardwalk?

Yes. A number of our Kemah plans are on rental homes in old Kemah and on the canals. We work around the turnover calendar, and your property manager can be the contact for access and the text before each visit.
